Katja Fedorova

was @sweden 2016-11-14 to 2016-11-21

I’m Katja, a rider. I live in the just big enough Swedish town of Västerås and compete in road racing and cyclocross. I also write, shoot beautiful places in the world and let my mind go free when I blog about cycling, love, music and life on my blog cykelkatten.cc.

My passion is the thrilling and liberating art of cycling. For me, riding is more than a sport – it's the beauty of the world under the bike's wheels, it's the technology and it’s all the great people. It’s a true religion.
This week, I will open the door into my world and let you see Sweden from a rider’s view. Ride on!

@sweden Nov. 20, 2016, 11:49 a.m.

Motionslopp may seem boring and it actually when you're used to break aways, chases and action BUT - the courses are often beautiful and to

@sweden Nov. 20, 2016, 11:48 a.m.

"Motionslopp" means that people that "don't want to compete" ride a course and get a finish time for example 6.45 or smth.

@sweden Nov. 20, 2016, 11:47 a.m.

So, for sum (commercial?) reason, today we've more "motionslopp" than actual races in Sweden.

@sweden Nov. 20, 2016, 11:33 a.m.

better infrastructure.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 4:06 p.m.

The infrastructural challenges are huge. If you want to read about the truth - follow @KristerIsaksson who's devoted his life to fight for

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 4:05 p.m.

No human being should be afraid to get killed in our shared traffic.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 4:03 p.m.

I'm not a lawyer, nor a psychologist but smth tells me that higher penalties would stop more drivers from chancing and/or messing with 🚴🏾‍♀️

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 3:46 p.m.

Yet the penalties for killing cyclists are low. Often the killings are called accidents even if the driver intentionally runs over a rider.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 3:44 p.m.

Back to reality. Each year, thousands of cyclists get hurt (and lots die) cause of drivers attitudes and bad infrastructure.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 2:15 p.m.

Fuxx I've got a cold 😔 Don't want to end up having SLIME as Saturday's theme 😭😭😭

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 1:28 p.m.

@eksor_ @YouTube Why don't you share the roads with pedestrians then?

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 11:26 a.m.

@cmbsweden I have! Enjoyed the riding, even if it took a while to adjust the mindset you know ;)

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 11:25 a.m.

@dc7ia Where do teams train?

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 11:04 a.m.

There's no GROUP called "cyclists". There are people to ride bikes, as there are people who drive cars, or ride electric wheelchairs, or go.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 11:03 a.m.

@dc7ia Are you sure? Everywhere?

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 11:02 a.m.

And then we have Alex, 7, learning how to ride a bicycle for the first time.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 11:01 a.m.

We have Team @WiggleHigh5 training for the @vargardawwt UCI World Cup race https://t.co/RsZyjwJ4lq

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:58 a.m.

We have @peppelorum taking his kids to school in his green cargo machine https://t.co/ybKxNNaLZV

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:56 a.m.

We have Agda, 62, training for her first @Vatternrundan, riding her Colnago in full gas.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:52 a.m.

But for some reasons, it's called "cyclists" like some homogeneous group where all are the same and move in the same way.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:51 a.m.

Well cyclists are not angels. Cyclists are like people are most - DIFFERENT from each other.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:50 a.m.

@ThegoodBuck That doesn't sound good at all! If you know which club it is, write to the management so they speak to their cyclists.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:46 a.m.

@ThegoodBuck But a tractor, or a car with a single person in it still takes more space than two people riding side by side.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:46 a.m.

RT @derekandming: @sweden Ask them "Why do cars seat people 2 wide?"

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:33 a.m.

@missgaijin I'd really love to come to the "real" Spain some day!

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:32 a.m.

So WHY is it so provocative with people riding? It it cause they seem so free? Is it cause they upset your flow? WHY? 😩

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:30 a.m.

And the most usual answer I get it MM... DUNNO... IT'S just SO provocative 😒

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:29 a.m.

And I ask then, so WHY IS IT SO BAD WITH ONE-PER-DAY PELOTON TAKING UP LIKE, 2 M INSTEAD OF 1 M?

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:28 a.m.

And I'm like DO YOU ASK TRACTOR THE SAME?

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:28 a.m.

I mean, even my otherwise decent colleagues sometimes ask me WHY DO YOU CYCLISTS NEED TO RIDE IN PAIRS?

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:27 a.m.

But what's the solution? In cities, separation is a way to go. But outside - how to change the attitudes?

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:26 a.m.

RT @fmork: @sweden Some people seem to think that when shielded by the exterior of their car (or a computer and the internet) manners are…

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:25 a.m.

@missgaijin Sorry not Spain, Baleares... maybe they're more used to cyclists!

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:12 a.m.

But of course it's different in different areas of Sweden. Here round Västerås - the most car-loving POWER MEET area in Sweden,cars are HOLY

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:09 a.m.

Here in Sweden, most people are rather calm outside their cars. When in car something happens. Some kind of suppressed aggression light? ;)

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:07 a.m.

- though the overall traffic situation may SEEM more aggressive there.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:06 a.m.

As a frequent traveller, I feel more secure riding bike in Italy, Spain, France, Germany etc. than here at home.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:05 a.m.

@missgaijin Shit you live in an other Sweden?;)

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:05 a.m.

RT @helioloureiro: @sweden but some people has strong opinions about cars not respecting bikes. Too strong. https://t.co/P3xxciRVWh

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:04 a.m.

@chrischrill I understand. What road laws do you mean?

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:03 a.m.

I hate this "VS" attitude. I love driving my car, I love riding my bike. And my mum loves to take a long walk without getting rammed by us.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10:02 a.m.

Somehow in Sweden, it's more bikes VS cars than bikes AND cars AND other road users. Some provocateurs even make movies with "VS" in it.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 10 a.m.

@missgaijin I of course believe you!

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 9:59 a.m.

In some cities, we have good examples: https://t.co/CEZBWOBXor

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 9:59 a.m.

We have daily accidents, have cyclists spit on, screamed on, scared, rammed. It's a shame in a country with ENVIRONMENTAL CARE as its signum

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 9:55 a.m.

The drivers attitudes are changing ever more slow.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 9:55 a.m.

It's changing, but it's changing too slowly.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 9:54 a.m.

We have "car roads" and then we have strips "for everything else".

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 9:54 a.m.

Well you see, Sweden's infrastructure is NOT created for cars AND bikes AND pedestrians.

@sweden Nov. 18, 2016, 9:53 a.m.

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 3:36 p.m.

More cool teams! @TeamCrescent is one strong bunch. Give them some insta attention: https://t.co/287gbvVPxC

@SignyTheSage Curves are hell for aerodynamics:(

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 3:34 p.m.

RT @CliveJT: @sweden Yes, I got all my fastest time trial times when in my 50s. Due to better training, better aerodynmaics I think.

@Gogzs Haha! Or "where are the pedals?" ;)

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 11:09 a.m.

And I'm like mum pls, the cheapest of my bikes is still more expensive that my shitty car I own just to be able to transport my bikes! 🙄

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 11:08 a.m.

My mum btw, she's not into the sport as much as I. She's like "Poor girl, some day you'll earn so much that you don't have to ride to work"!

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 11:07 a.m.

I mean, I myself are a late bloomer. Didn't have any curves until 18. Didn't have any sport bikes until 27. Didn't have any car until 30.

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 10:57 a.m.

That's one of the coolest things with cycling - your career doesn't end in your late 20's. On the contrary, you may be a late bloomer!

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 10:55 a.m.

Sometimes I train with Jenny. These rides are as fun as painful. The woman is devilish strong. She also swims and runs and has kids etc etc!

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 10:54 a.m.

Then we have ladies/gents @TeamOrmsalva (the pink ones) and Jenny from Norberg - she's one of a kind! https://t.co/vHgJpzQDUs

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 10:44 a.m.

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 9:56 a.m.

Cycling is known as the "individual team sport". Let's have a look at Swedish road teams!

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 9:51 a.m.

But although we don't cry like babies each time we hit the ground, we really admire the soccer players team spirit!

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 9:40 a.m.

@invertedqualia Good example: google "Nathan Haas + circuit" https://t.co/3iaAo4Y9C0

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 9:40 a.m.

@invertedqualia Both! Use machines for leg curls and press. Use boxes for jumps. Use core ball for core.

@sweden Nov. 17, 2016, 9:36 a.m.

Today's theme is The Sport. Some people talk about The Game (smth with some ball). Let them play - cycling is tougher 😏

Tomorrow's theme will be The Sport. And yes we'll talk stars and brands and components 🗜🎙💎 Sorry for absence, feeling a bit cold today 😔❄️

@sweden Nov. 16, 2016, 5:06 p.m.

Soon time to hit the gym. Even cyclists need strength (duh), even if it's a scary fitness world out there in them gyms 😬

@cartermckinnon_ Sorry what does "dragged" mean?

@sweden Nov. 16, 2016, 4:32 p.m.

Things #white: - socks - handle bars tape - bed sheets - teeth - lies ❤️

@sweden Nov. 16, 2016, 4:31 p.m.

Speaking of socks. In these troubled times, there are road cyclists out there riding in COLOURFUL PATTERNED socks. So scandalous! 🙀

@sweden Nov. 16, 2016, 4:06 p.m.

Got a q about why so many girls in Sweden ride "ladies bikes" when "classic bikes" are faster and looking better. Very good q!

@sweden Nov. 16, 2016, 1:23 p.m.

Bit there are differensens in serving & drinking coffee. For instance, I like my latte Spanish, small & strong. Here it's large and milky 😩

@sweden Nov. 16, 2016, 1:21 p.m.

@bankzzzgtr @LeeEriksson Yeah! But there's a new coffee brand from Västerås - BJÖRKLUNDS ROSTERI

@sweden Nov. 16, 2016, 1:20 p.m.

Pausing for a coffee - or a cup of tea, or an ice cream - is a major holy grail part of cycling culture. Do you prefer coffee or tea?

@sweden Nov. 16, 2016, 1:18 p.m.

Even if I don't like the fact that @BianchiCafeCycl won't serve any ecological/fair trade coffee in their shops, still it's very well done 😌
