@Sweden May 20, 2012 19:50
@solushed thanks!!!
I have a 9-5 job as a civil servant. Currently, I work the Swedish Migration board and I have been doing that for a couple of years now. I have been in this business for quite some time now and I have just recently begun to understand it and the debate that follows. The issue is sometimes heavily debated and everyone have their own opinion about those questions.
I was born and grew up in Stockholm. Some years ago, I found out that citylife was utterly boring. Now I live a quiet life in a small town called Mariefred, some 70 km southwest of Stockholm.
My interests are gardening, beekeeping, skiing, boating, music and wines. I also have chickens, four cats and a puppy called Stina, six month old.
Civil servants and authorities are sometimes described as grey, dull and somewhat anonymous. Perhaps I can change that image… or confirm it. I consider myself to have a rather dark humor and I believe that there’s always something funny in almost everything. I also want to give glimpses into my world an maybe bring some knowledge and understanding by pointing out debated issues, perhaps from a slightly different angle. You can follow me on twitter @Mjutell and also on Instagram, same handle as mentioned.
@solushed thanks!!!
…and it’s my pleasure to introduce @LinaRudin. She will be the curator for @sweden for the next week. Welcome Lina!!
Amazing week that’s come to and end…and I’ll leave you here, while enjoying my Pinot in a beautiful sunset. Cheers!

@ScottArbs I agree
@Vassaste_Kniven i agree.

The mum and the chicken..I think that there’s some more chickens underneath her http://t.co/JOfN3mSs

Love to show you pictures of the chickens but their mum seems to be a little too worried for comfort. I better leave them alone
Home. And finally, the eggs hatched while I was away. Cute.
Back in Stockholm. Waiting to get off the boat

@abeim …than Swedish and finnish. Nothing in common. I don’t speak finnish. No swede does. Most finns speak swedish
@abeim …related to dutch, german and english. However, Swedish and finnish have nothing in common. Swedish and, say hindu are closer…
@abeim good questions! Swedish is very close related to danish, and norwegian. No problems to understand. The scandinavian languages are…
Nooo, so sad….RIP Donna Summers
@pajp tackar…befinner mig i Borgå nu.

Fortress of Smörasken. Due to lack of fundings the navy plans to reopen it. Crossbows are cheaper than rifles http://t.co/SbxDnQ2W
Difficult to get access to internet. I’ll be back as soon as I can.
@pauljdeutsch silja line. Just about the same but painted in white instead of red
@Britt_W både och. Ska hjälpa en kompis att snickra på hans hus
Now, where’s my parrot, my sword and my wooden leg?
I’m not a big fan of these ferries but since you are not allowed to bring your car on a plane, there’s no alternative.
There are some 22000 islands in the archipelago of Stockholm and I believe this boat is bigger than most of them http://t.co/4jCaufiZ
The boat looks a bit like a floating container but I suppose it is
@dosespressos if you have a permanent residence and you have lived in Sweden for a couple of years, them you are entitled to apply
@dosespressos ok. But I’m not sure if I can give you an answer
My computer is shut down and my safe is locked. I’m in a hurry
@LoyaulteMeLie perhaps there’s no such thing as too much coffee?
@NeverTheKraken people tends to forget we have a law to follow. Decisions are not made by flipping coins
@grantike86 we work hard in order to reduce waiting
@worldcuppoprock but it is!!
Some Roxy Music while I prepare yet another interview http://t.co/N5XCtzyB
They are married and their papers were in order, their application for a residence and work permit was granted. I love those decisions
@pernillarydmark glad that you’re pleased
Busy morning. Conducted two interviews and wrote some decisions. Lunchtime!
@kurrmjau jajjamensan! Här är man nu
@chetouanea her name is Stina. 50% australian kelpie and 50% german schaefer
Morningwalk in the park with the dog Stina http://t.co/IwCIE42r
@svknco rattlesnakes are dangerous. I’ve never heard of anyone being killed by a european viper. I
Btw,I almost stepped on a snake today…he or she seemed to be a bit lazy. I believe they’re called viper in english http://t.co/0AqbcYVt
@liseuse Please kill me
First some reading….an anthology about the punkscene in New York…then some sleep.
I forgot to mention it…yesterday, it was 100 years since the famous Swedish author August Strindberg died. He never won the Nobel price

Donya is still waiting for her eggs to hatch http://t.co/k7uBlotm
@simonasgarbi by train 35 mins
@FriederikeHell I have read that book. Liked it a lot His life was a rather sad story.
@YasmineSR yes. I know there’s a debate…and the issue seems to be quite infected
@InnGritttt No. He’s not that famous. But I’ve read him..and have seen his grave. He’s life was a rather sad story in many aspects
Rune stone with inscriptions from the 11th century and the castle of Gripsholm http://t.co/Fg0dI8sD
@atli_vidar sorry. Rune stone
@Twinkletoesxxxo probably not. No one bothered to ask them
@jonhickey19 it is! You also by tax free booze
@fikustommy ja jo…så var det nog.
@ronpiovesan good question! I have no idea how communication was possible. The two languages have nothing in common
@abeim from Stockholm to Helsinki it takes about 17 hours.
@abeim I’m going to visit a friend. The boat trip isn’t that fun. But since I’m bringing a car I have to
In a way it seems fair…Sweden and Finland were united for some 600 years
Back home from work. Have to pack my bag. Going to away for a few days. Tomorrow evening @sweden is going to take a boat to Finland
@rocketjsquirrel imagine to have a private train..like mr Burns in the Simpsons. Oldfashioned but yet new thinking
@Vedran07 I’m sorry but I can’t give you an answer. But a visit to an office is a good idea!
@pikucom it is! Maybe a little to cold?
If I ever win loads of money on lottery or something, I’m going to buy myself a train. More useful and more fun than a private jet
Rush hour. It seems to be more people than usual. My train is crowded
@Vedran07 you better take a look at http://t.co/uvGpPbhA the site is available in english.
@TheEmpressive @khaoid At the moment, in worst scenario, some people have to wait for 10-11months before they get a decision. Not ok
@khaoid I agree.
However, bribes are a serious problem since it puts democratic principles aside.
I explained to him that it was impossible for so many reasons but I thanked him for his most generous offer. I had to pay for that taxi
I was asked if I ever were offered a bribe…a chauffeur offered me a free ride in his taxi if i could approve his cousins visa application
@FriederikeHell I agree. Absolutely.
@djausdrpercnop I hope not…but I believe I have some old tapes somewhere…
We never became rockstars but we managed to get a gig…playback of course, since we couldn’t play any instruments
@emmajeans no…I grew up and became boring
When I was you younger me and my friend wrote songs about how much we hated the government and authorities…now I’m sitting here…
@mvrisekoop @amclind Germany and France
@EdanStarforth it depends. From a couple of days to a couple of years
@CLRgrrl I hope so.
@vinaykap you are absolutely right. Good point!
@claudiaskyeg difficult! My advise to you is to keep looking
@Claireysmurf good question but I do not have any figures. Get back to you if I find any statistics
Yoghurt and a whole meal roll for lunch. I’m almost to glamourous for comfort.
@chetouanea at the moment, aprox. 8% unemployed
@chetouanea at the moment, not to good. But in some some sectors, skilled people are needed
@JenNy081187 well you just have to meet a person to fall in love with…then hand in an application at the embassy. Ever so easy! Good luck!
@EdanStarforth most applications are not for a permanent residence permit
@Marionstockholm special rules for EU citizens like you.
@SirWB good question but I’m afraid I don’t know the answer. I get back to you if I can find some statistics
Whatever the reason is. Since 1980 1529666 applications for residence permits has been granted
Most people apply because they want work in Sweden…or study…but most because of love
Asylum is a small part of all application that the Swedish migration board are handling. Last year 93000 applications were granted
It is estimated that 34000 person will claim asylum in Sweden this year. Usually those predictions are quite accurate
Some statistics: Last year aprox 30000 people claimed asylum in Sweden and that makes Sweden number three in Europe.
I work for the Swedish migration board. The authority is not that popular and migration issues are heavily debated In Sweden
@pukkakakkanen …but moka Is a good choice. But here at the office we only have those huge coffe machines
@pukkakakkanen I prefer espresso.
@pukkakakkanen black coffe. Fairly strong.
And some coffe for a kickstart. First time I tasted it I came to think about toxic waste, then I got used to it and nowadays I even like it
At the office…
@noerdfarbrorn she is!
@FizaIsa she’s gorgeous. Six months old.
Feed the chickens with a little help from Stina. Now I’m off to work http://t.co/rqJ3PcZ5
Impossible to be so tired that I am right now. The explanation must be that I’m still asleep and having a bad nightmare
@Absolut_Sweden I know that some beekeepers have them here in Sweden but they are quite unusual
@Absolut_Sweden buckfast bees. I think they are perfect for this climate and also they are quite easy to handle
@Absolut_Sweden nice! Where do you live?
@svknco tea and toast
@AdrianaNSC a cold night, I had ice on my bedroom window. On the inside…no fun
@AdrianaNSC …this winter wasn’t to cold in Stockholm. But the winter before this one…brrrrr
@svknco happy to bring back good memories
@jmcouceiro the cold isn’t really a problem since they go to sleep during the winter…a short season though…
@simonasgarbi thanks
@setwitt very good question. To be aware of the problem is a good start. Research is going on
@AdrianaNSC everything turned green just recently. It’s been a cold cold spring
@chetouanea yes it is. Recent research has proven honey can be used instead of antibiotics
@terrifictherese haha….yes it probably is. But if Jonnys comes to my house, I have my dog Stina for protection
@karoumomer it is. Nature just turned green after a cold cold spring
@simonasgarbi unlike a hornet, bees die when they sting. Therefore they try to avoid it. I understand you though…it can be quite painful
My home http://t.co/gGA7Y9wM
@simonasgarbi in a small town called Mariefred…some 70 km south west of Stockholm
@simonasgarbi there’s no need to. They are quite friendly
@alexiskienlen it’s become a worldwide problem. I hope it can be controlled otherwise we are in serious trouble
…for some reason, it doesn’t hurt the bees but the nasty bugs dies http://t.co/NyasgPNk
The varroa mite has become a serious threat to bees, both wild and domestic. In order to kill the bug I pour some oxalic acid on them…
@eyegraphic I suppose you’re right
Her name is Donya. She’s been lying on her eggs for a couple of weeks. The eggs will hatch any day now http://t.co/MVaIWlN9
It’s been a warm winter and a cold spring. For the bees, it’s the worst possible scenario. But these girls doing fine http://t.co/lMjSpvD4
@Federica_Baire @fizaisa this spring has been colder than usual. Longing for some 20 degrees and sun
@damienps can’t even imagine -90. I have experienced -40 a couple of times and it’s very unpleasant.
@damienps no…it’s seems impossible.
@FizaIsa @federica_baire if you want cold weather you won’t be disappointed….
The central station of Stocholm is probably the coldest place on earth right now. http://t.co/I0KWrLi9
@Mickael_L an authority. Swedish migration board
@Hnsmamman thanks!
@abeim how to make ourself more efficient…and also some discussions about changes in the legislation
@s00sie it’s like petrol that keeps the engine running
@eleni_sson thank you…
@andrewhennigan good suggestion!
Conferences like this one is probably important….otherwise, we would still use typewriters and carbonpapers instead of computers.
This meeting is probably going on for the whole day…we are to discuss suggestions for improvements.
Lunch break and free lunch. Yay!!
@setwitt good quality honey are often sold in ordinary supermarkets. Just make sure that there’s no sugar added. You don’t want syrup
@setwitt I used to be a bit afraid of bees myself but found out that there’s no need to. In general, bees are friendly
@FizaIsa Stockholm is also bright but cold.
@tommlie hello… I hope you’ll enjoy them!
@FizaIsa hello Singapore. How are you?
@andrewhennigan from the movie “blue in the face”. I can recommend it
@chetouanea @britt_w thanks…
@khaverluk22 @peopleofuk @wearefrance Uk and France…hej hej
@weareFrance @peopleofuk …but that’s good, I reckon…
@DiianMust it happens every now and then…my bees quite angry. But it doesn’t hurt like beeing stung by a hornet
@weareFrance @peopleofuk you are right. More hello than good morning
@PeopleOfUK @wearefrance almost like in English. You say hej
@pure_outdoors thanks. I hope so
Before I get back to my meeting, I would like to share this…Lou Reed’s thoughts about Sweden. http://t.co/KUscsdnk
