Maria Sjöberg

Maria Sjöberg

was @sweden 2013-05-06 to 2013-05-13

My name is Maria, I am 30 years old and I live in Stockholm. I work as a web editor for a Swedish IT business magazine. In my spare time I am the vice chairperson of the Stockholm Pride Festival and I arrange the weekly board game meet up #spelbar.

I have a deep passion for alternative fashion, subcultures, art, feminism, intersectionalism, LGBTQ-rights and meat. But most of all I love, truly LOVE, games. Video games, computer games, board games, you name it.

"A picture says more than a thousand words" they say. I take snapshots of big and small things in my everyday life on Instagram and I collect inspirational images on my Tumblr. I see words as toys, which is why I see myself playing when I tweet on my regular account @maria_s.

Game on!

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:58 p.m.

So see you later, kottar. <3 Grab your guns and bring your cats in.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:58 p.m.

Remember: there is no such thing as a "goodbye". Only "see you later".

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:56 p.m.

Next week you will be entertained by @enkelp who apparently knows all about hockey. Which is good, I know nothing about hockey.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:55 p.m.

If you want to read my Swedish tweets: @maria_s (links in English) and oogle at my English Instagrams (nefalia) then welcome.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:53 p.m.

Yes, it's that time of the week again. It's been a pleasure entertaining you, making you think and getting you mad.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:52 p.m.

Ok folks - what do you hear? I hear nothing but the rain. So I'll grab my gun and bring the cat in.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:51 p.m.

.@spazure My personal Twitter -> @maria_s but my tweets are in Swedish, my links are mostly in English and my Instagrams are def in English

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:48 p.m.

Actually I'm just a lazy bum who is easily amused by a 6 hour gaming session, but hey.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:48 p.m.

Home sweet home. Today's been a typical Sunday, getting lost in the hours and just going with the flow. So much fresh air that I feel dizzy.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:47 p.m.

.@JanJoostBouwman @drewcromwell For anyone who can enjoy alcohol, it might seem pointless. I'm glad I can drink something else than soda.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:09 p.m.

@JanJoostBouwman @drewcromwell Except that I can't drink alcohol so I am happy.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 7:58 p.m.

"It's most important that you hate the same things." - quote of the year by @tildedrinkstea

@sweden May 12, 2013, 7:38 p.m.

I wonder what things I do that makes other people raise an eyebrow. Except scrolling through Suicide Girls on Instagram on the subway.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 7:09 p.m.

A dude is looking at his smartphone with a magnifying glass. I am intrigued.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 7:04 p.m.

@mattivx I asked for it at the bar that I went in to. As long as they have alcoholfree wine, there can be magic.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 7:03 p.m.

@Ascii211 @drewcromwell Not sure how you make alcoholfree wine but I'm all ok with whatever. :-)

@sweden May 12, 2013, 6:47 p.m.

.@drewcromwell It has the taste of red wine but isn't alcoholic. Yay for alcohol free wine!

@sweden May 12, 2013, 6:29 p.m.

Alcoholfree sangria, a gift from above/below/the sides on a sunny Sunday in spring in Stockholm.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 6:12 p.m.

They aren't children. They are Sims, silently judging me.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 5:01 p.m.

@eriksson_hans Already seen Mulholland Drive, three times.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 4:58 p.m.

At Fotografiska, the photo museum, I wonder where Slenderman is hiding in this picture.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 3:09 p.m.

In the summertime me and my friends play the game "german or dyke". A joke of course. In recent years we started to play "hipster or dyke".

@sweden May 12, 2013, 2:45 p.m.

Photobombed by former @sweden @tildedrinkstea in today's outfit picture <3

@sweden May 12, 2013, 1:50 p.m.

@Chrishka Jönköping and... can't remember the other. :-) @ShaunWilders @fazzaan

@sweden May 12, 2013, 12:53 p.m.

@ShaunWilders @Chrishka @fazzaan Two cities in Sweden offer free public wifi all over town. Wifi ALL the things.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 11:21 a.m.

@clubsodaweb I haven't been recognized by strangers and curators rotate every week so it's hard to tell.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 11:15 a.m.

If you have time, please go to the original site of Alter Ego photoset and read about why the persons depicted have chosen their avatars.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 11:14 a.m.

Earlier this week I talked about how I relate to my characters. I just remembered this photoset called Alter Ego.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 11:12 a.m.

@Promania123 If you like old school rpg adventuring, just buy it straight away.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 11:04 a.m.

Started on Dragon's Dogma yesterday. Loved the character customization. Why did I wait so long to play it?!

@sweden May 12, 2013, 10:52 a.m.

Sunday among first world problems: buy new flowers before or after the museum and brunch?

@sweden May 12, 2013, 10:48 a.m.

.@milesdigby Yes of course there are poor people in Stockholm too.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 10:12 a.m.

@bernsteinblue Poor cones to be smashed like that! :/

@sweden May 12, 2013, 10:09 a.m.

.@Validescope No it's not Mother's Day in Sweden today. But yay to all mom's, every day.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 10:01 a.m.

.@bernsteinblue I grew up among pine and fir so those cones are my reference. :-)

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:54 a.m.

Kottar is what I call everything/one I think are cute/sweet/lovely. It's the Swedish word for cone. RT @DomSequitur: @sweden what is kottar?

@sweden May 12, 2013, 9:36 a.m.

Good morning, kottar. I have no plans for today so my day is completely open and free. Let's see what happens.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 12:20 a.m.

I'm literally getting bit in the hand to avoid tweeting. Good night, kottar. Be safe wherever you are.

@sweden May 12, 2013, 12:10 a.m.

There's a lot of place under the rainbow. Welcome. RT @luhugerth: @sweden any thoughts on the words queer/genderqueer?

@sweden May 11, 2013, 11:53 p.m.

I don't expect everyone to understand. I'm not here to convince anyone. I'm here to make you think. Think one step further.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 11:48 p.m.

@AnnSofieDaniels I follow @Transfeminazgul on my personal Twitter account. :-)

@sweden May 11, 2013, 11:46 p.m.

Sweden is relatively okay when it comes to LGBTQ rights. So I wrote about why we must never ever ever stop fighting.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 11:44 p.m.

And when the expected critique of #homoriot ensued, I wrote about why I will never shut up about LGBTQ rights.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 11:41 p.m.

I first wrote about #homoriot here and why that hashtag was so important for the Swedish LGBTQ scene:

@sweden May 11, 2013, 11:37 p.m.

If you want to know what it can be like to be gay/lesbian/trans* in Sweden, Google Translate the hashtag #homoriot that boomed last year.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:48 p.m.

To be sure to include all trans variables. RT @luhugerth: @sweden why is it written trans* and not just trans?

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:45 p.m.

And this little word: "no", no matter how politely I phrase it, is still the hardest words to understand in any language.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:44 p.m.

From every time you assume I have a boyfriend, my girlfriend is my friend or that I want to answer the question of how I have sex. No.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:42 p.m.

Because the norm, a social structure so strong, says "This is normal, your behaviour is not" in small ways that together is a mass reminder.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:40 p.m.

Even now, among you who are open minded, I have to explain why I sometimes feel the need of not being the odd one out. Why, do you think?

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:35 p.m.

Of course I am painting up a hugely generalized picture. Of course I have straight friends. But the world isn't a peachy place all the time.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:33 p.m.

It doesn't mean my trans*friends dislike me, don't want me as a friend or don't want to get to know nontrans* people - they just want space.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:31 p.m.

On respecting that not all spaces are accessible: I respect that my transgender friends in transition do not want me in their trans* spacrs.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:17 p.m.

So because of this I rarely go to straight bars. Because I don't feel like being interrogated, questioned, feeling unsafe.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:14 p.m.

And if straight men do understand the word "lesbian" they do not grasp the concept "lesbian" meaning "two women, no man looking, nothing."

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:12 p.m.

And I'm not joking. Straight men just make it so hard for me to be friends with because they can not understand the word "lesbian".

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:07 p.m.

Hence the need for lesbian bars. Lesbians want to meet lesbians. Just respect the fact that some spaces are not accessible for all people.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:06 p.m.

When a lesbian, me, go to a straight bar I don't go to make male friends. Because men rarely understand that I'm not interested in men.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:04 p.m.

All men, any men, would be more or less ignored in a lesbian bar. As would all women, any women, be in a gay mens bar.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:02 p.m.

@classyacting Lots of customers but the owners had been running it for so long that they wanted to do something else.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10 p.m.

You will most probably be ignored. Like air. RT @m_i_c_h_a_e_l_m: @sweden what happens if a man shows up for those?

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:59 p.m.

Don't. Just don't. RT @EddNorris: @sweden Whats the policy of going to lesbian bars as straight man because you want platonic lady friends?

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:13 p.m.

So whenever there is a pub or bar happening I try to go because I want to contribute to the growing lesbian smörgåsbord.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:12 p.m.

This drought of regular pubs and bars where you can have a drink and a laugh sparked new initiatives. Nothing open every day yet, but still.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:10 p.m.

Club/culture happenings are great but the comfort of knowing that you can go to a place where you feel safe and unquestioned is priceless.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:08 p.m.

But after those three everyday waterholes closed there was the emptiest space ever in every Stockholm lesbians social life.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:06 p.m.

On top of those three waterholes there were club happenings around three times a month. Culture happenings like movie and literary as well.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:05 p.m.

A few years ago we had three places to go that were open every day. They all shut down one after another for various reasons.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:02 p.m.

This evening's special: dinner at a friend's restaurant and drinks at one of the few lesbian bar initiatives left in Stockholm.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 7:08 p.m.

When will I learn that Suicide Girls on Instagram is NSFPT (not safe for public transportation)?

@sweden May 11, 2013, 3 p.m.

.@CatalinaAndOleo No, I'm on the board for Stockholm Pride as vice chairperson.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:43 p.m.

I know it is spelled sandwich but sammich is more fun to say. Sammich sammich sammich.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:26 p.m.

@marquesspfc No thank you, I'm not interested in men. Have a pleasant trip.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:24 p.m.

.@All_a_Mort In this case I meant a sauce that tastes like peanut butter. Satay has coconut mikk and red curry as base.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:02 p.m.

"This is were pies go when they die." - no they go straight to my belly. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 1:55 p.m.

Speaking of syrup+ham: peanut butter sauce with meatballs is yummy and peanut butter cloudberry jam sammiches are fab.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 1:45 p.m.

.@marquesspfc No, I'm single.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 1:32 p.m.

Maple syrup and ham. Need to try that. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 1:27 p.m.

Oh there's the red room. Finally. I feel like it's just like in my dreams. Totally logical. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:54 p.m.

New coffee table is new! It was heavier than expected. We first took it on public transportation, the rest in a cab.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 11:10 a.m.

Today I'm a zebra. Huihuihui! Or whatever zebras sound like in written form.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:14 a.m.

.@natlondon No, there are no ghosts here. That I know of.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 10:13 a.m.

.@ladyakb The long handle under the worktop is a so called bread baking table that you can pull out. :-)

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:53 a.m.

@ladyakb That's the top half of my guinea pig cage.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:52 a.m.

They asked me: "Are you going to keep the kitchen interior?" Yes. "Good. Mother would have liked that very much."

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:51 a.m.

I bought the apartment from two of the brothers that grew up in it. It was clear that they had a hard time separating from it.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:48 a.m.

My apartment has only had one previous owner: a family of five that moved in when the apartment was built.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:47 a.m.

Even my kitchen interior is in it's original state from 1947. I'll only show you the clean side today.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:32 a.m.

.@laktose Yes, most things I own are covered in clothes because I'm a lazy bachelorette. :-)

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:31 a.m.

This weekend is actually the first in three weeks that I have not planned any flea market hunting trips. All hunters need a break.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:28 a.m.

Here is the desk my great grandfather built. The drawers still have pencil markings: "Sävar 1935", "right" and "M".

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:23 a.m.

Here he is, my old friend. I gave him a name that I can't remember but I refuse to rename him.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:16 a.m.

I put him in the cellar storage room when I was 20. Now when I'm 30 I use him to put my clothes on after a day's work.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:14 a.m.

I remember when I opened the present from my grand parents, 4 yrs old. I remember playing with him in secret when I was as old as 13.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:12 a.m.

My most precious item is my rocking horse from my childhood. My family wanted to throw him away several times but I kept him.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:10 a.m.

I've stacked two old traveling trunks in the living room. Judging by the labels on them they've traveled around the world more than me.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:08 a.m.

My tv is placed on top of an old 60's tv cabinet. That's when they had the tv in the cabinet. Now my PS3 is inside.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:07 a.m.

I have a desk that my great grandfather built with his own hands.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:06 a.m.

So I see my used things as ongoing stories. New things are not clean slates but more like unread books.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:05 a.m.

I was raised with the thought of all items and things in this world are only ours to borrow while we are alive. Then they wander on.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9:03 a.m.

What I like the most with getting previously used items is the stories that come with them.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 9 a.m.

My new coffee table is from a second hand store. Most things in my home are second hand, handed down from relatives or flea market finds.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 8:55 a.m.

Fridays can be dramatic like that. RT @sta415: I'm not judging you @sweden but this Swedish woman on the train is threatening mass genocide.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 8:50 a.m.

Good morning, kottar. Today I'm picking up a new coffee table for the living room so I'll finally have somewhere to put my giant candy bowl.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:40 a.m.

@Toernis Perhaps. I've only gotten to the third episode.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:39 a.m.

I wonder if I'll be sleeping at all since my neighbours have decided to jump about and yell. Apartment life, you are too grand.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:36 a.m.

Time to sleep, kottar. I dozed off at the end of #1sttimeTwinPeaks so it's way past my bed time.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:29 a.m.

That's enough #1sttimeTwinPeaks for now. So many questions, so little time.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:28 a.m.

I think I've discovered a connection: the more awesome hair, the worse their taste is in men. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 2:26 a.m.

Too much excitement for one day. How come it's so exhausting to have a day off work? Must be all this fresh air.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 1:22 a.m.

Bulgarian convent. Really? Is that even a real threat? #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 1:13 a.m.

How the heck did a fish get in the perkulator from the beginning? #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:52 a.m.

"Cremate my bacon" - sweet music to my ears. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:48 a.m.

The Twin Peaks town setting is beautiful but obviously no place to live in. Like Midsummer, with all those murders. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:43 a.m.

Anyone who lines up donuts in pairs like that is bound to be awkward. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:41 a.m.

.@greenejeans73 Deadly Premonition is a game.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:19 a.m.

Leo, what a charming young man. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:12 a.m.

@John_Isnt_Irish I think I've drunken danced to Cascada but it's nothing that I would put on while at home.

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:08 a.m.

"Is there something wrong, young pretty girl?" Maybe that's a good complement for my pick up line library. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:04 a.m.

Wow, they cry as much as I cry over food. #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, 12:02 a.m.

Diary and chocolate bunnies. THAT is what the police thinks is relevant? #1sttimeTwinPeaks

@sweden May 11, 2013, midnight

.@rebharath I loved Carnivale.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:50 p.m.

"It's because of Agent Cooper that I like older men" she says. O-kay.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:37 p.m.

.@Vassaste_Kniven I'm cool with awkward silences.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:28 p.m.

.@icontechbeats 10 min into Twin Peaks and I feel like I'm in the drama version of Deadly Premonition.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:23 p.m.

Deadly Premonition was a really underestimated game. I thought the graphics were charming.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:20 p.m.

I've been meaning to watch Twin Peaks for a while since it inspired scenes in Deadly Premonition. I really liked Deadly Premonition.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:17 p.m.

I've heard Twin Peaks is scary. So I'm watching it with @ofinns, the big Twin Peaks nerd in my circle.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:14 p.m.

Watching Twin Peaks for the first time. Over 9000 years late.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 10:57 p.m.

Always when I get the munchies... RT @mandalaya: @sweden funny cause it is true!

@sweden May 10, 2013, 10:54 p.m.

Looking over the refridgerator poetry that my friends left me: "I like to eat girls with tiny delicate petals in their sleep" #wtf

@sweden May 10, 2013, 9:39 p.m.

Actually this evening could be more perfect with a session of Singstar.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 9:37 p.m.

A friend, the guinea pigs, gin and elderberry flower drink, redecorating the balcony = my perfect Friday evening. I'm a party animal.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 7:54 p.m.

Throwing away my vacuum cleaner. Thank you for all these years.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 5:49 p.m.

"What about the ass?" - "The ass is good." - compulsory questions when trying out clothes.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 5:12 p.m.

Soft ice cream with sprinkles - the only way to eat it is with my whole face, apparently. Eat ALL the ice cream!

@sweden May 10, 2013, 3:16 p.m.

.@MyCaricature I cry a lot over food because I get all these feels.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 2:27 p.m.

I can definitely cry of happiness over food. Most often I cry over really good meat and desserts.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 2:21 p.m.

Laduree in Stockholm has an open air café - finally! Reading the menu makes me so happy I feel like I want to cry. ;_;

@sweden May 10, 2013, 1:38 p.m.

Compulsory annual cherry blossom photography with @ofinns

@sweden May 10, 2013, 1:11 p.m.

My best pickup line: "Hi."

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:43 p.m.

Of course, if I just want to have sex, that's not hard. If I just lower my standards enough. But I don't want to do that.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:32 p.m.

Picking up someone in a place like the subway makes me nervous. I usually talk to someone first and then ask them out.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:30 p.m.

I'm not ashamed. I'm just shy. RT @secsqu: @sweden Conversely, if you're not ashamed, why hide it behind the glasses?

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:26 p.m.

Now the yoghurt bottle is a monster in the hands of the dad. "Oh my god, wuah!" - "Dad, make a spasship! A spasship!"

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:25 p.m.

I forgot how effective sunglasses are for looking at cuties discreetly on the subway.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:22 p.m.

.@CaptainRaison I don't celebrate midsummer so I don't know about the weird part.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:21 p.m.

"Can I have some yoghurt?" a dad asks his daughter. "No" she says. Dad pouts. "Yes!" she changed her mind.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:19 p.m.

I love what spring and summer does to Swedes. So many happy faces, posture becomes more open and warm.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:54 a.m.

Managed to get dressed today as well. I am a well assimilated human being.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11:02 a.m.

Maybe I should get dressed. I hear that it's a world wide custom when going outside.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 11 a.m.

It's funny that the only ones making remarks on my English are Swedes. A typical Swedish trait.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 10:02 a.m.

I keep odd cups for coffee and tea because I like the idea of my guests having a favorite when they visit.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 9:53 a.m.

Morning sammich: ham, cheese, avocado. Drink of choice: black coffee.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 9:48 a.m.

There, there, I know the cheese slicer grater is a Norwegian invention. But since I am in Sweden, mine is Swedish.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 9:43 a.m.

"Since I don't work tomorrow I remembered to turn off my early morning alarm so I can sleep longer!" said no one in the whole world ever.

@sweden May 10, 2013, 9:36 a.m.

Good morning, kottar. Why I love Swedish cheese graters: perfect slices for my sammiches. Cheese slicer! ♡

@sweden May 10, 2013, 12:58 a.m.

I'm so tired I dropped my tablet in my face. Time to sleep, kottar. ♡ Tomorrow it's cherry blossom time with @ofinns.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:47 p.m.

@wmisner70 I don't know if I'll dare to.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:46 p.m.

How is it possible to be this exhausted after carrying and cleaning and decorating a cage?!

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:44 p.m.

My girls are so small that I don't think they'll make much of a stew. RT @ntone: @sweden i like them grilled or in a stew

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:37 p.m.

You know what I love more? Being able to go abroad or on a local trip and then come home. There's nothing like sleeping in my own bed.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:35 p.m.

Guinea pigs are the new cats on Internet. You know where you heard it first.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:35 p.m.

Oh yeah, I also like reindeer meat. Wow, my country is so awesome.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:29 p.m.

Then again, of course I like Sweden. It's my home and I will probably never call anything else home.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:27 p.m.

.@trivialbanan My guinea pigs are always free on the floor when i am home. Except today because of the new cage.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:26 p.m.

About Swedish Internet availability: apartments with built in 100/10 mbit is standard. On mobile 4G is soon standard.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:22 p.m.

More about rules on how to keep guinea pigs and other rodents in Sweden. Hope the Google Translate link works!

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:16 p.m.

Speaking of Swedish Internet availability: the new guinea pig cage, let me show you it.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:11 p.m.

And last but not least: I love Swedish Internet availability.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:07 p.m.

I love that it is against the law to keep a guinea pig by itself because it is proven that they are herd animals.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:05 p.m.

I like picking elderberry flowers on my way home from the subway station so I can make juice to last me a year.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:05 p.m.

I like friends like @sushisael who knows I love cloudberries so she picks them for me in the autumn and send them to me so I can make jam.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:03 p.m.

I like the hunt of flea markets in peoples yards that you only find if you see the tiny sign that indicate their existence along thehighway.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 11:01 p.m.

I also like seeing the first coltsfoot flowers in spring. The breeze of the first autumn wind. The smell of night on the countryside.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:57 p.m.

Seriously, what I like the most about Sweden: cheese graters, solidarity, wild boar meat and saffron buns.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:50 p.m.

Me. Because me. And friends. But mostly me. RT @EloquentParrot: @sweden Hey Maria, what's your favourite thing about Sweden and why?

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:49 p.m.

@lenasverige Yes, it was used. I didn't expect it to be squeky clean but didn't expect it to be this dirty either.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:46 p.m.

It's so awful. I feel like crying.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:39 p.m.

Can't imagine what life was like for the guinea pigs that lived in this cage before. :-(

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:39 p.m.

I can't believe how dirty this cage is. The water is practically black and I've only cleaned one side of it. I feel so sad.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:23 p.m.

I effing love machines.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:23 p.m.

Disassembling the new cage to deep clean it. I get to use my new mechanical screwdriver and I can't understand how I've lived without one.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:22 p.m.

@RiccardoGuidi87 Haha, no, that's not me. But she's cute. Is she single?

@sweden May 9, 2013, 7:59 p.m.

.@peachmebaby This week the Swedish cats are all sold out. Expect a refill by next week. This week we have guinea pigs.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 6:18 p.m.

Slightly bigger car is here. :-)

@sweden May 9, 2013, 5:38 p.m.

So I underestimated the measurements of the new guinea pig cage. We had to call after a bigger car.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:40 p.m.

One last tip that I've learned from watching Asian horror movies: ghosts ignore you if you hold your breath.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:38 p.m.

Enough with the scary talk. Here's a video of what I feel when I eat ice cream. And meat.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:32 p.m.

Most of my friends are scarred for life from Jaws. I blame my mixed feelings for children on the countless horror movies I've seen.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:31 p.m.

When I first visited London and got to the subway I instantly started breathing faster because it made me think of SIlent Hill 2.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:28 p.m.

Thanks to Silent Hill 3 I look upon bunny costumes and carneval horses with great caution and scepticism.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:26 p.m.

Thanks to Pet Semetary I am forever extra careful where I put my Achilles' tendon.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:20 p.m.

You know those sleeptalking apps you can download that activate recording of noises while you sleep? Not going there. Not a chance.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:19 p.m.

@amberdemure If you click the link you will get to the link.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:16 p.m.

Oh god, I can't even scroll past the title of that web comic, it still makes me shiver.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:14 p.m.

I read this comic in full daylight at my office and was still scared of going home a few hours later. I'm a coward.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:11 p.m.

The last scary movie I saw was Paranormal Activity 2. All my reasons for not having security cameras in my home? Yeah.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:10 p.m.

I watch horror movies and play horror games. I can't do any of it by myself though.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:09 p.m.

I was 17 years old when I went to my first haunted house attraction ever. The next time I went into one was when I was 23. Never again.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:07 p.m.

I don't really believe in ghosts but I am scared to death by horror movies and I never go into haunted house attractions.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 4:05 p.m.

In a discussion about scary things I said to former @sweden @tildedrinkstea: "Don't be afraid of giants. They don't exist. Unlike zombies."

@sweden May 9, 2013, 3:58 p.m.

Oh my god, Robot Unicorn Attack has a sequel! *_*

@sweden May 9, 2013, 3:58 p.m.

Zombie apocalypse approved. RT @simonscott1975: @sweden You combined SCISSORS with SPATULA and created BLUNDERBUSS.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 3:53 p.m.

Only downside to this hideout: no weapons. Pencils and food utensils are not weapons. Maybe the scissor?

@sweden May 9, 2013, 3:51 p.m.

There are metal doors. There is coffee. There is food. There is water. There is electricity and computers and internet. Good hideout.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 3:48 p.m.

Now I'm all by myself at the office. I look out over the empty building floors and consider this a pretty decent zombie apocalypse hideout.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 3:37 p.m.

. @boefjeblondie Lesbians who look like Justin Bieber? There's already a tumblr for that.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 3:09 p.m.

My fav site serves photos of Miley Cyrus looking gay but sadly ensuring she is straight. I say: It's never too late.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 2:51 p.m.

Today's must see video: "Gender issues aren't only for women - men are gendered too" - about domestic+sexual violence

@sweden May 9, 2013, 2:21 p.m.

Coworker: "Here's some hardcore XXX pr0n for you." *hands me an article on new computer XC30-AC from Cray*

@sweden May 9, 2013, 2:18 p.m.

Chatting with a friend over Facebook who is also working today. "I'm in the office with the blinds shut to avoid the sun." Keepin' it goth.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:52 p.m.

Only me and one other coworker at the office today. "My cat Rupert has 40 likes on Facebook now. He's getting a bit smug."

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:58 a.m.

.@mr_hansson Goths always mourn that they weren't turned into vampires in the 17th century as an excuse to constantly walk around in frocks.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:50 a.m.

.@juffery @sopheline Sharkies are the community behind the brand Black Milk, famous for their leggings. Give us nylon or give us death!

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:43 a.m.

@sopheline Sharkies ftw! [fist bump]

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:41 a.m.

Today's outfit: my favorite pin and my favorite necklace.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:28 a.m.

It just seems more reasonable for me to plan around my hobbies than my non existing religious belief.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:26 a.m.

When Diablo 3 was released, I took a week off from work.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:25 a.m.

Come to think of it, I'm the same with vacations as with holidays. They often circulate around big game title releases and trips.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:10 a.m.

@cmbsweden 500 000 viewers and 50 000 in the parade of Stockholm Pride.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:09 a.m.

.@colin_jervis My guinea pigs enjoy gaming too.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:03 a.m.

On second thought, I'll have an ice tea in the grass, thank you.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10:02 a.m.

Actually, no tea in the grass. I'll have a coffee instead, but you can have tea if you like.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 10 a.m.

Tea in the grass - yes. A whole day with my guinea pigs on the balcony - yes. Silent Hill gameplay marathon with friends - yes.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:59 a.m.

This year I've learned to say no more often to obligations after work and saying yes more often to spontaneous adventure.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:56 a.m.

Last year was my first year as vice chairperson of the Stockholm Pride Festival. Hello stress, goodbye spare time! This year is much calmer.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:55 a.m.

.@Andreas_Hz My personal account is @maria_s - but I only Twitter in Swedish. Links and Instagram are in English though.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:54 a.m.

I don't recommend it to anyone to book themselves up like that. I chose all my extracurricular activities myself, but I've learned my lesson

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:53 a.m.

Until recently I worked and had obligations after work so often that I was confused on a day off. "What is dis nothing you speak off?!"

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:51 a.m.

Even my calendar (yes, a paper calendar!) doesn't have any holidays marked out. All days equal, open to be whatever I want them to be.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:48 a.m.

To be honest I'm not that good at holidays. I even forgot it was Easter because I am so used to working when others aren't.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:47 a.m.

"I hereby celebrate the lord Jesus with laying flat on my couch, watching Netflix and stuffing my face with cake". Seems legit.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:46 a.m.

I don't know of anyone who actually celebrates Ascension Day. Unless you count slacking as a form of celebration.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 9:12 a.m.

@TheCalenestel I love @NorrbottenBD too! :) I have relatives and friends all over Norrbotten.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:43 a.m.

.@piratadelfuturo Today is Ascension Day in Sweden, the day Jesus flew to the sky to hang out with his dad. I'd do it too if I could.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:37 a.m.

Cherry blossom tree photos may continue to spread in your feed even today. Expect a peak of cherry blossoms over the weekend.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:32 a.m.

Today's bus adventures are canceled. Because some buses, as opposed to news, take a holiday.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:28 a.m.

Don't worry, I get my day off tomorrow as a compensation.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:27 a.m.

I am not off from work today because news never takes a holiday!1!!!21 #lifeofawebeditor

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:26 a.m.

Went to the grocery store to get coffee instead but they only had espresso, latte and macchiato. Three espressos in one cup? Bad idea.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 8:23 a.m.

Good morning, kottar. Since it's a national holiday today my regular coffee stop before work is closed. Cue withdrawal symptoms.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:45 a.m.

Kottar, time to sleep. Tomorrow I'll be working when just about everyone else has a free day. On the plus side: I have Friday off.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:34 a.m.

The only real animal fear I have nowadays is the irrelevant fear of insects under my skin. Let's not talk about it, I'm about to sleep.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:32 a.m.

When it comes to dolphins - I just don't trust an animal that is so darn happy all the time.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:29 a.m.

I still think spiders are scary when they come in a cluster. Any animal would be scary in a cluster. Even kittens. Or? Yes, even kittens.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:27 a.m.

I got over my worst spider fear a summer on the countryside in Thailand. The roof of the shower was covered with spiders.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:25 a.m.

I'm also a bit cautious around spiders bigger than 5 cm. I used to be afraid of all spiders.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:21 a.m.

I was surrounded by monkeys, I stood still and held my breath. Then I remembered that's how you avoid a T-Rex attack, not a monkey attack.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:20 a.m.

When I was in Bali I decided to face my fears and visit the Monkey Temple. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeh. -_-;;;;

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:17 a.m.

.@DJorgy Oh yes, I even put them down on the floor but they run straight back to the blanket.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:16 a.m.

The only animals I have mixed feelings about are monkeys and dolphins.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:14 a.m.

.@PoofyUnicorn I'm not sure why they don't leave the blanket. They are allowed to. I guess they just like it better.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:13 a.m.

I've always felt more comfortable with pets than without pets. With animals in general, I guess.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:11 a.m.

My first pet was a guinea pig named Kajsa. Since then I've had mice, rats, several guinea pigs and several cats in instances.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:07 a.m.

Then they go in and out of the cage as they please. They never leave the blanket area though.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:06 a.m.

I put a fleece blanket on the floor, open the cage, spread out their houses on the blanket and secure the kitchen with a low net fence.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:04 a.m.

I have seen to them having free floor time the moment I get home until I go to sleep. That's ~5 hours with free access to the cage.

@sweden May 9, 2013, 12:02 a.m.

This is the first time since I got my guinea pigs that I've come home so late that they haven't been free and out on the floor. I feel bad.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 11:14 p.m.

"When I was X I saw Y and therefore is Z" = experience based evidence.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:34 p.m.

Many bad words flew out of my mouth tonight. I lost at all games. Nice to see some new board gamers though. :-) #spelbar

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:03 p.m.

@cores163 No problem at all. :-)

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:02 p.m.

I dragged former @sweden @mandalaya with me to #spelbar - not sure if we are still friends after these games.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:48 p.m.

Pandemic: Lagos is in deep infectious shit. #spelbar

My social skills are BRILLIANT. RT @mandalaya: Out eating with @sweden

@sweden May 8, 2013, 8:19 p.m.

Sadface. :-( RT @Cunobaros: Baking cake. (No, @Sweden, you can't have any. Sorry.)

@sweden May 8, 2013, 7:54 p.m.

Can anyone else than a nerd love another nerd?

@sweden May 8, 2013, 7:47 p.m.

Actually I'm not that much of a love letter writer. I think I am more of a gift giver and word showerer.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 7:46 p.m.

Apparently I suck at sending love letters in the game. #spelbar

@sweden May 8, 2013, 7:41 p.m.

Escape: real time dice game where you have to digdigdig out of the ruins before the exit closes. #spelbar

@sweden May 8, 2013, 7:29 p.m.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 7:04 p.m.

I am fed and waiting for dessert. Around me people are playing Fluxx, Castle Panic and Tsuro of the Seas. 20 ppl are here. #spelbar

@sweden May 8, 2013, 6:41 p.m.

Give me meat cake or give... wait.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 6:40 p.m.

Give me cake or give me death.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 6:40 p.m.

Give me meat or give me death.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 6:40 p.m.

Mmm, meat. Mmm, dinner. Mmm, Iberico ham.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 6:39 p.m.

"Which one of these has the most meat in it?" - my standard question when ordering at a restaurant.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 5:21 p.m.

@KennyEvil I was prepared for at least 6 hours of gameplay. We were all pretty surprised.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 5:19 p.m.

.@Ahernz1991 There are lots of immigants in Sweden. My mom made the transition and many others after her.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 5:19 p.m.

.@KennyEvil Haven't gotten around to Mansions of Madness but I've played Arkham Horror in record time: 2 hours.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:49 p.m.

@Ahernz1991 Most Swedes know English. You might never learn Swedish though, you have to honestly work hard for that.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:48 p.m.

.@mr_hansson I love RISK but do not play it with anyone I am currently in a relationship with because of reasons.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:47 p.m.

.@Erikstj I always feel stupid when playin Trivial Pursuit but I still play it because I like a good competition. Heheee.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:46 p.m.

OMG I DO D: RT @RandChange: @sweden You think like a living Powerpoint presentation? ;-)

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:44 p.m.

The truth is, anyone is welcome to join. And we don't accept "I don't know how to play" as an excuse to not participate. We help you!

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:43 p.m.

The truth is I am a really bad winner too. Gloating and gleaming. Oh my god, I sound so grotesque! XD

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:41 p.m.

I'm such a bad loser. :< I scream and yell and pout. But it fades away as fast as it washes over me.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:38 p.m.

So in a few hours, expect to see some board game geekiness from me. :)

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:38 p.m.

But I have taken a pause from bringing it with me since last time I played it I got so in character that I yelled "I WILL KILL ALL OF YOU!"

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:37 p.m.

My favourite game to bring along with me to #spelbar is the horror adventure Betrayal at the House on the Hill.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:36 p.m.

We play everything from FLUXX to Game of Thrones to Zombie Dice. If you would like to bring chess or UNO that works too, we're all open.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:35 p.m.

You can bring a game that you want to play or just come as you are and jump into a game someone else brought.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:34 p.m.

Every Wednesday around 10-20 people show up to play board games at a pub. Some return regularly.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:33 p.m.

My friend @ollej said: "Playing board games at a pub would be nice." I said: let's do it! So we did. Result:

@sweden May 8, 2013, 4:32 p.m.

In T minus 1.5 hours it's time for meat and board games at #spelbar. My two favourite things in one place.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:34 p.m.

The best part of banana split is the ice cream and meringue mix. My favourite is marzipan cake ice cream. Yes, it exists. Mmm, marzipan.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:32 p.m.

Banana split cravings - damn you, spoken confetti! *fist clench*

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:27 p.m.

@klarastjarnljus Could you please tweet those last two tweets of yours in English so I can retweet? Because that is too adorable.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:18 p.m.

Let's play pretend and everyone speaks confetti and sprinkles and oh my god I am craving a banana split with extra fudge sauce yumyum

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:17 p.m.

.@joepz0r Yes, here is my Tumblr ->

.@SwedenDC I know Swedish (ORLY?), English (YARLY!), some Thai, some Japanese, some French. (and I will also speak confetti, blingybling!)

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:12 p.m.

If one could speak confetti, could one speak sprinkles too? THIS IS TOO MUCH I DON'T EVEN OH I NEED TO TAKE A DEEP BREATH

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:11 p.m.

Oh my god, what if one could actually SPEAK confetti? Is that what unicorns speak?!

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:10 p.m.

.@Wah_Kao Oh sorry, I meant that the words pop up like confetti, not that it is a language. But it would most probably be a sparkly one!

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:09 p.m.

When memories get too up close and uncomfortable I have to move physically to shut them down. Like fluttering my hand or shaking my head.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:07 p.m.

When experiencing memories, they play like short film clips. I press repeat, I pause, I rewind, I go in slow motion, I zoom in...

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:06 p.m.

Even though Swedish is my first language, sometimes words popup in my head in any of the other languages I know, like confetti.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 3:05 p.m.

The more upset I get, for any reason or the other, the longer my sentences get in my head.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 2:58 p.m.

When you think, your thoughts, in your head - what do they look like? My thoughts are like a slideshow of photos and occasional keywords.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 2:50 p.m.

@jorge_humberto We might be secular but holidays are not to be messed with.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 2:42 p.m.

@chrisradsby Fashion intern sounds more attractive.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 2:31 p.m.

Work load increased today because everyone (but me) are having the day off tomorrow due to national holiday. My day off is on Friday. :)

@sweden May 8, 2013, 2:17 p.m.

"There's also a personal trainer thing in Kinect. I have to shower afterwards. Not a remote control kind of training!" #eavesdroppingatwork

@sweden May 8, 2013, 1:46 p.m.

Working so hard I think my screen is actually trying to melt my face.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 12:46 p.m.

Dns server article was decorated with a photo of the person who was interviewed. You can all be calm and return to your seats.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 11:58 a.m.

@GeorgeHades I haven't seen any kind of similar jobs from other gaming companies but it might have just been me being blind.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 11:57 a.m.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 11:53 a.m.

CCP Games are hiring a fashion intern for their MMO World of Darkness. Y U NO HAVE SWEDISH JOBS LIKE THIS?!

@sweden May 8, 2013, 11:51 a.m.

Data in motion. So beautiful I want to cry! ;_; RT @mr_sig: @sweden Something like this perhaps?

@sweden May 8, 2013, 11:47 a.m.

A web editor's problem: how to put an image to an article about DNS server attacks. D:

@sweden May 8, 2013, 11:25 a.m.

My tweets about "Where do you come from?" summed up. RT @fgoodway: @sweden The storify is here:

@sweden May 8, 2013, 11:03 a.m.

Of course I didn't kill the pixel spider. You don't kill pixels! :<

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:58 a.m.

@fgoodway Thank you for this. I am glad you thought it was worth Storifying.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:54 a.m.

.@wzuritag Personally, I refrain to talk about my background because I want to keep it private. But I adjust to the situation.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:39 a.m.

@fgoodway Only if you link it to me later so I can tweet it out.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:34 a.m.

"Why is this pixel moving?" I thought - and saw it was the tiniest spider crawling across my screen.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:30 a.m.

Intersectionality once more: women, asians, mixed ethnicites, homosexuals all fight for equality. Me, I'm an intersectional poster girl.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:27 a.m.

People rarely ask and do things just to be mean. But just think. Once more. Think before speaking.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:25 a.m.

"But we're all the same!" - no. We are not all the same. As human beings we are and should strive to be EQUAL. But we are not the same.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:12 a.m.

"When I go abroad, I like being different!" my ex said. Of course, because you're on a vacation. I can't take a vacation from my own body.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:06 a.m.

Because every time you ask someone where they are from, it is a reminder of not belonging. You might not mean it like that, but it is.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:05 a.m.

Mind you - I do not need or ask for pity. I just want you to open your eyes and think a bit further.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:03 a.m.

I got annoyed of constantly getting asked where I'm from. So I decided I'll just not answer that question anymore.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:02 a.m.

There's something called intersectionality. This is a hard word to explain. So please have this image:

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10:02 a.m.

Social structures work subconsciously. Even with me, I catch myself thinking X prejudices about Y. But I try to think before speaking.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 10 a.m.

People do this not because they are illnatured. It's a part of being in a society structure where something is considered "normal".

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:59 a.m.

When you ask me where I'm from, you ask it for the first time. I've been asked a million times. Subconsciously it tells me I do not belong.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:57 a.m.

Continuing on when I worked at the supermarket and people talked. Really. Slow. Swedish. With. Me. So. I. Could. Understand.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:56 a.m.

Or rather, I was MADE aware that I'm not the Swedish stereotype when I as a kid got to hear "Why is your nose flat?" and "I love your skin!"

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:54 a.m.

My father was Swedish. My mother was Thai. I am born and raised in Sweden. I am well aware that I do not look like the Swedish stereotype.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:54 a.m.

Yesterday I was asked where I am originally from. This may not seem like a big deal to some people. For me it is. I'll tell you why.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:44 a.m.

@Wah_Kao Yes! My little baby. <3

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:39 a.m.

.@vagueness Funny you mention trying to look around corners on the screen. I catch myself strafing across the street regularly.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:33 a.m.

Other gaming related injuries: Nintendo thumb, TAC-2 blisters, Sims finger and Dance Dance Revolution skin burns.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:27 a.m.

.@Ke_Ga I was instructed by my PT to do some flexing exercises over the couch at work. I look silly but it's really good for my posture.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:13 a.m.

I really need to work on my posture. All these gaming hours make my back look like a C.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 9:02 a.m.

Today's outfit: I tried to dress lightly because it is really warm outside (15 degrees Celsius). Gothic mistake.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 8:46 a.m.

I took the wrong bus. Ended up at my favorite subway station Thorildsplan. Here's a crappy panorama of the pixel art.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 8:24 a.m.

Ok these bus experiments? Not working for me.

@sweden May 8, 2013, 8 a.m.

Good morning, kottar. Let's see if I can get on the right bus today.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 11:13 p.m.

Okay kottar (have you learned what that means now?) - it's time for bed. I'm really excited for tomorrow because then it's BOARD GAME NIGHT!

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:52 p.m.

.@MaryDippinDots Some outfit photos of my time in Japanese lolita fashion can be seen here:

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:46 p.m.

Sweden. RT @mademoiselle023: @sweden where are you from originally?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:43 p.m.

Nerdy subculture movements are most often the best enabling pools for future project leaders, idea sparkers and initiative takers.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:37 p.m.

Some see dorks in cosplayers. I see dedication, handicraft talent, sewing magic and fantasy indulgement.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:33 p.m.

I remember when 40 cosplayers in a competition was a big deal. Now Sweden even has it's own national championship.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:27 p.m.

I usually cosplay as part of a group of friends. They are doing a Diablo shoot on Thursday but I'm working. :<

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:25 p.m.

As for cosplay, last time I made a costume was for the Diablo 3 release. I went as a Witch Doctor.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:23 p.m.

I was a cybergoth too when I was a teen, with the fake neon dreads made of wool and everything. You name the material, I've had it as hair.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:22 p.m.

.@kuwabashley My favourite animes are Boogiepop Phantom and Utena.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:21 p.m.

So I've slowly but surely eased out of that and back into my old gothic ways. I was a goth when I was 13. Once a goth, always a goth.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:20 p.m.

I never felt so alive or so fully myself as I felt when I dressed in Japanese lolita fashion. Doing that for 10 years is... hard to let go.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:19 p.m.

I felt lost stylewise when I stopped dressing in Japanese lolita fashion. Like I was no longer myself. It was a strange feeling.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:18 p.m.

I still look to Japan for fashion inspiration, it's just such a big part of me that I can't let it go.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:17 p.m.

Until last year, I had been a part of the Swedish Japanese lolita fashion community for around 10 years. That movement is still growing.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:16 p.m.

.@Ansjh My main Twitter account is @maria_s - I only tweet in Swedish but most links and all my Instagram photos are in English.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:15 p.m.

.@djinersha Oh yeah, Autechre is great!

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:13 p.m.

.@zombies I haven't been interested in Eurovision this year. But I will probably watch the big finale with my family because it's tradition.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:12 p.m.

Now I just watch my fav animes for nostalgic reasons and I only cosplay when there are major game releases. As for fashion, I'm still there.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:10 p.m.

I was fully plunged into the Swedish Japanese subculture movement for many years. Mostly because of fashion, but also gaming and cosplay.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:08 p.m.

In the early 2000's we also had a Japanese music club. Now there's a kpop club. I'm happy about that, it makes me nostalgic.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:07 p.m.

I promise you haven't fully experienced a happy dance floor until you've danced with nerds synchronizing Yatta.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:06 p.m.

Now Stockholm has the nerd club Syntax Error where they play anything from Yatta! to Nyan Cat to Anamanaguchi.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:05 p.m.

Oh, my fault! I stand corrected. RT @PeopleOfCanada: @sweden That’s actually a Doctor P track:

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:05 p.m.

Now that I think of it, Stockholm actually had it's own chiptune club in the early 2000's. Wow. I had totally forgotten about it.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:04 p.m.

Or Avicii's Levels crossed with Super Mario. Wieeee!!!

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:03 p.m.

Actually, when it comes to chiptunes, any remix makes me warm. Fluxx Pavillion's Tetris remix, here you go.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:59 p.m.

And of course I have a weak spot for chiptunes and old school game inspired music. Blasterhead was my personal fave.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:56 p.m.

I also get weird hangups when it comes to music. I listened to this album of Múm every Sunday for a whole summer.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:54 p.m.

This one by Noisia is really hard to hum, for example.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:51 p.m.

The downside of listening to music with no lyrics is that the songs are harder to hum when you need help remembering the names of the songs.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:48 p.m.

Had totally forgotten about it. That tune is great. RT @sushisael: @sweden I still love because of you by Ayu.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:47 p.m.

As for Swedish artists, Gnucci Banana is cool.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:45 p.m.

Kpop is starting to get big in Sweden. I don't know much about it but I think 2NE1 are pretty cool looking.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:43 p.m.

Otherwise I still like silly happy stuff, like Die Antwoord. I doubted them at first, but, eh... yeah.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:42 p.m.

Last time I actually heard a lyric through the music rather than the melody, was this song by Purity Ring.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:41 p.m.

I have no real music taste, other than a good beat, a melodic tune. I rarely listen to lyrics.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:40 p.m.

Oh yeah, I also had a huge, HUGE crush on Ayumi Hamasaki. Not for her music, only for her looks. At least I'm being honest here!

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:37 p.m.

I also had a metal period where I thought a band was better the more unreadable band logo it had.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:36 p.m.

My biggest Japanese artist crushes were Tommy February 6 and HALCALI

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:35 p.m.

Somewhere around my late teens I discovered Japanese fashion. And with it came the music of course.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:34 p.m.

I still like silly happy music. Like Alice Deejay.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:33 p.m.

As a kid I was a coward when it came to music. I secretly loved Blümchen. In several ways. I still love her music.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:31 p.m.

My fav album of Aphex Twin is Drukqs. If you've seen Marie Antoinette you will recognize the first track.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:29 p.m.

I was supposed to see Aphex Twin live but then he cancelled his show in Sweden. I bought a ticket to his Denmark show but didn't make it.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:27 p.m.

The bears in Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's video remind me of Aphex Twin's Donkey Rhubarb bears. Unsure of which is creepier.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:23 p.m.

Let's have some more brain acid - Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's latest single.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:01 p.m.

Look no further: How to tell if a toy is for a boy or a girl.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 6:40 p.m.

Seeing all these joggers. I used to be physically active but then I took an arrow to the knee.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 6:22 p.m.

Numbers of cherry blossom photos from Kungsträdgården in Stockholm in my feed: 10 in the last hour.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 5:27 p.m.

Even my little piglets like to watch when I play games.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:40 p.m.

I use this every time I need to get a perspective on stupid problems. RT @545Steve: @sweden have you seen this?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:35 p.m.

This picture sums up all my feelings for outer space:

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:33 p.m.

Brb, freaking out over 3D visualixation of our 100 000 closest stars, OMFGWHAT

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:26 p.m.

Before you snark at someone playing Bejeweled instead of DOTA because "that's not a real game": show them Puzzle Bobble. I bet they love it.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:24 p.m.

Game industry workers don't do it just to spite or to be mean. They just. Don't. Think. A. Step. FURTHER.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:23 p.m.

I keep fighting because games have given me so much: adventure, fantasy, love, companionship. Noone should be denied that.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:22 p.m.

Sometimes, on the more dark days, I wonder why I keep fighting against a culture that doesn't even let my gender be a character choice.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:21 p.m.

If I as a simple consumer, friend and cousin can do all this: what can you game industry worker do to make the gaming culture more pleasant?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:19 p.m.

As a friend, I can encourage my friends to play anything from Candy Crush Saga to Counterstrike.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:18 p.m.

As an older cousin, I can give my younger cousins who also are gamers a variety of games to broaden their gaming experience.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:18 p.m.

As a consumer, I can speak with my money. Having the privilege of being articulate, I can speak through Twitter, blogs or other media.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:17 p.m.

I don't think the female gamers are the ones responsible to change the gaming culture. ALL gamers are responsible to change it. ALL OF US.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:15 p.m.

You don't have to be female and/or gamer to know that this kind of vocabulary in gaming is inappropriate:

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:12 p.m.

As if it's all up to me, as a consumer, to carry the change of a movement, a culture? In some point, yes. But all gamers are responsible.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 4:11 p.m.

Usually when I'm out discussing games, I get to hear; "If you're so discontent with the gaming industry, why don't you DO something?"

@sweden May 7, 2013, 3:54 p.m.

Not pointing any fingers. Just saying that it would be nice to see something new. Something different. Gamers come in every shape and form.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 3:45 p.m.

It's also quite funny how many male lead game characters are white with brown hair and a bit of stubble. :)

@sweden May 7, 2013, 3:41 p.m.

It's quite funny actually how until recently you could be playing as a giant animal beast person in a game but not a dark skinned human.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 3:39 p.m.

.@blmcgann Dreamfall/Longest Journey is on my shamepile of games I have yet to play.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 3:29 p.m.

Faith in Mirrors Edge and Jade of Beyond Good & Evil are also females I appreciate in games. Because they are nonwhite and BAMF.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 3:27 p.m.

I hate to admit this: but Ivy has always been my best choice in Soul Calibur. It's such a shame that her boobs is all you see.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 3:21 p.m.

Females I appreciate in games: Aveline, Assassins Creed III: Liberation.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 3:19 p.m.

Females I appreciate in games: Chell of Portal.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 2:20 p.m.

"I've always wanted a web magician on this company. Is that you?" the CEO asked me. I don't want to make others feel inferior but - yes.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 2:17 p.m.

Meet and greet for newly employed staff with my company's CEO. There's cake! I'll stuff my fave with you, delicious cake.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:42 p.m.

But it's also very comforting when a producer defends their games that enable all sexualities:

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:41 p.m.

I mean, it's really disheartening when the TR exec prod says players don't project themselves into Lara Croft.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:38 p.m.

I guess I'm just so used to wanting to play lots of games but not really feel welcomed because I'm not a white hetero male.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:36 p.m.

When I saw the Tomb Raider trailer I got sad. When I read the exec prod talk about protecting Lara, I cried. When playing TR I fell in love.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:27 p.m.

How games and characters make me feel is important to me. After the Dead Island trailer I stay away from hyping games until gameplay too.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:22 p.m.

Of course, it has a lot to do with nostalgia. The way games and characters make me feel. All nostalgia, not really a thing of good vs bad.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:20 p.m.

@Chris_Townsend I only floated in space, actually. I felt it a bit awkward to see a piece of me like that.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:20 p.m.

But I have yet to see a striking game with a female lead role that can walk in the shoes of Mirrors Edge. Hard shoes to fill.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:15 p.m.

I see you are curious about the Swedish gaming industry. We're practically littered with both mainstream and indie gaming initiatives.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:12 p.m.

@mtsw I would take a guess at SC2, HoN, LoL and Dota2. But I might be mistaken.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:10 p.m.

@rymagnusson Year Walk looks awesome! Too bad it's not available on Android.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:09 p.m.

.@AlexLoureiro I think Dreamhack has helped the Swedish esports scene a lot. Imagine the world's biggest LAN to be hosted in tiny Sweden.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1:06 p.m.

.@AlexLoureiro Swedish esports players are famous within the esport scene, but not recognized as famous by the general public, no.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 1 p.m.

I remember 6 years ago I said: "There will be no esport games in Swedish National TV until someone understands the scene". Here we are.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:59 p.m.

Sweden also has BarCrafts, where SC2 fans make local sports pubs show SC2 livestreams from all around the world.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:55 p.m.

I made the suggestion to Swedish National TV to take away the geoblock for SC2 Dreamhack livestreams. This year it is happening.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:53 p.m.

Sweden actually has had SC2 tournament finales from Dreamhack on livestream on Swedish National Television. I used to work with that.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:51 p.m.

.@mouzWake I have tried StarCraft 2 but I enjoy looking at it more than playing it myself. I suck at RTS.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:49 p.m.

Looking back at it, I don't miss WoW as a game. I miss the sync I had with the other guildies.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:42 p.m.

But it was lonely in EVE. When I saw another ship I was much like when dogs see eachother on the street. First a sudden halt, then cautious.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:38 p.m.

When I played EVE Online, I felt like I was the ship. I was floating through space, I gave myself upgrades and felt stronger.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:37 p.m.

When you play a character in an MMO, do you immerse yourself in your character?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:34 p.m.

Oh yeah and RIFT. The leveling graphics animation felt like something out of Bejeweled. LEVEL UP BLING BLING DINKEDINKDONK

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:33 p.m.

As for other MMOs, Everquest 2 was fun and I feel bad for not giving Guild Wars 2 more love. EVE Online was gorgeous too.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:27 p.m.

.@JamesJ10 At first I was a Nelf Huntard, then I was a Nelf Priest, after that I went Troll Priest and UD Warlock all the way until the end.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:23 p.m.

I feel like a WoW dinosaur but BACK IN MY DAYS we raided with 40 people in Molten Core. ;^;

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:22 p.m.

I still have some of my old guildmates from WoW on Facebook and Instagram. I have also put my months as a guild leader on my resume.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:19 p.m.

All those hours spent in WoW, hurrdihurr. I still get chills when I hear the loading screen music.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:18 p.m.

But as all MMORPGs that are not WoW, it just wasn't captive. Maybe it has to do more with me being a full time worker instead of a student.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:16 p.m.

I liked SW:TOR. It was very intuitive, and the character creation kit was satisfactory. I was a muscly amazon mercenary. /flex

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:14 p.m.

Epic. Just epic. RT @Echo: @sweden Maybe a game with a Jedi lady doing parkour in Nar Shadaa.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:11 p.m.

EA gets the Star Wars game deal and Swedish studio DICE are already on it. What will become of this?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:08 p.m.

It sure is! RT @shoshin2000: @sweden it's "irrelevant"

@sweden May 7, 2013, 12:04 p.m.

I need some brain acid. Here, have some XXXO with M.I.A

@sweden May 7, 2013, 11:50 a.m.

That awkward feeling when I tell my coworkers I'll catch up with them for lunch, get to the place and none of them are there.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:49 a.m.

Ah, which ever way you turn, your ass will always be on your back. Oh wait, that sounds really weird in English.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:46 a.m.

.@2000aldrig Oh, okay, dicks as in persons, not genitals! That's a tough one, there are so many to choose from.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:43 a.m.

.@2000aldrig But please also consider thinking once again if you are putting up the dick wallpaper in a workspace.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:42 a.m.

.@2000aldrig If dick wallpaper, please consider Mapplethorpe or Tom of Finland (NSFW)

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:31 a.m.

Okay - Nicki Minaj wallpaper is located at TT, Sweden's biggest news bureau. Appropriate or not? Weeeeeeeeeell

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:16 a.m.

Stockholm inhabitants report the cherry trees in Kungsträdgården blossoming today. Expect high influx of cherry blossom trees in your feed.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:11 a.m.

Unrelevant boobism is quite common in the gaming culture too. I know what I speak of. But let's not open that can of worms today.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:09 a.m.

I might be misunderstanding or lost in translation. But once again: no to unrelevant boobism and no to shaming someone for showing boobs.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:06 a.m.

An art photo? Yes, quite. Appropriate for a restaurant? Ehrrr.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:05 a.m.

Another example of unrelevant boobism: luxurious restaurant in Stockholm that advertised with a half naked woman.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:04 a.m.

But shaming someone for having boobs? Even my grandfather has boobs.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 10:03 a.m.

Because yes, unrelevant placing of boobism - very much tiresome.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:59 a.m.

What I'm trying to point out - is it because it's Nicki Minaj or is it because OMG THERE ARE BOOBS?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:54 a.m.

Colorful boobs on a wallpaper. Workspace appropriate? Not sure. Home appropriate? Well, yeah, I guess.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:52 a.m.

Of course there is a problem. There is a problem with how we value the bodies of the genders differently.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:51 a.m.

Or a halfnaked man?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:50 a.m.

Would it be another story if it was a naked man?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:50 a.m.

Would it be better if the wallpaper was in another setting than an official workspace?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:50 a.m.

Would it be better if it were only her head in the wallpaper? Would it be better if it was some other celebrity than Nicki Minaj?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:49 a.m.

"Constant objectification of women" regarding the Nicki Minaj wallpaper, I get the point. Is it because her boobs are visible?

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:33 a.m.

Maybe the pattern is a bit busy for a small wall but the colours are awesome. And Nicki is Nicki.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:32 a.m.

Apparently this wallpaper is located in a workspace. I love Nicki Minaj so I don't see the problem, really.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:31 a.m.

Speaking of women, I heard this wallpaper of Nicki Minaj caused a stir in the Swedish Twitterverse yesterday:

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:13 a.m.

.@AmazingTomGrace Real women have unicorns poop on coffee plants to make them tastier and nurture coffee drinkers with extraordinary powers.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:11 a.m.

"Leggings aren't pants". Well duh, of course not. Leggings are leggings.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:09 a.m.

On the right bus, coffee in hand. Tuesdays are the new Mondays.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 9:01 a.m.

I always drink my coffee black. Milk and sugar are for WEAKLINGS, rawr.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:58 a.m.

Oh okay, now I see why he took the wrong turn. I'm on the wrong bus. Now who's drunk? Oh my god, I need coffee. Black. Now.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:55 a.m.

I understand that there is a lot of talk about the dark of winter in Sweden. For me, the cold weather is worse. Darkness is a breeze.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:50 a.m.

Was happy to see the bus driver with a breathalyzer (alco meter?). Didn't know our buses had them. But now he drove totally wrong. Ehrrr.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:38 a.m.

I'm so glad there is daylight in the mornings again. Outfit photos in winter are such a hassle.

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:35 a.m.

I decided today to be Space Kitten Day. I feel like I fell out of Tumblr. Meow!

@sweden May 7, 2013, 8:32 a.m.

Good morning, kottar. Have you slept and dreamt well?

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:28 p.m.

I tend to call cute/dear animals and people for kottar, the Swedish word for cones. Like pine cones. So goodnight kottar, see you tomorrow.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:21 p.m.

I don't think dreams mean anything. But they are fun to experience. Rhinos in air balloons for example. It's hilarious.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:19 p.m.

At the end of a dramatic summer I dreamt all happenings in chronological order in an abstract way, like a black comedy. I woke up relieved.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:14 p.m.

I don't drive in ordinary life. In my dreams the car is always just a tad bit too big for me. And I drive like an amateur in racing games.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:13 p.m.

I can not fly by myself in my dreams. I always need a tool. Most often a kite.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:12 p.m.

I also return to places that I've dreamt of earlier. Then the places have changed, buildings rebuilt, people moved out and in.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:11 p.m.

My dreams are like tv series. I dream in the same setting, a main plotline over a longer period of time. Maybe two weeks, or three months.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:09 p.m.

I'm about to go to bed. Here's tonight's question: in what way do you dream?

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:04 p.m.

@DomSequitur The rest are gifts and found second hand.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:03 p.m.

It's funny how that feeling occurs sometimes - the feeling that you love an item more than life itself.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:01 p.m.

.@DomSequitur A third of the My Little Ponys are from my childhood. I just can't let them go. They were my friends for so many years.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:58 p.m.

Deep down I will always wish to be an artist when I grow up. If I could choose I would be excellent with gouache and water colors.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:55 p.m.

I go to art exhibitions to find new energy. It's like a creative refill. Abstract art is the most open art: it can be anything and nothing.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:52 p.m.

If you have the time, go and see the Hilma af Klint exhibition in Stockholm. I got so inspired and intrigued, it was overwhelming.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:49 p.m.

Hung my new art prints yesterday by Hilma af Klint, Swedish abstract artist from early 1900. The motifs are swans.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:03 p.m.

I prefer music with more melody. The less lyrics, the better. Singing for me is another instrument, just like the others that build a song.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:02 p.m.

Actually that's not really true. This song's lyrics really poked through the melody. It happens rarely for me.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 8:56 p.m.

.@John_Isnt_Irish My favorite artist: Aphex Twin. If I only have to choose one. But I listen to everything with more melody than lyrics.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 8:48 p.m.

.@jesusislove666 My favorite chocolate bar is Anton Berg marsipan and dark chocolate and Finnish Tupla.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 8:47 p.m.

.@schrodingrscat I don't like Pokemons but me and an online friend have a secret joke about Luvdisc.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 8:46 p.m.

@palfreyman1414 I know nothing about sports, but I guess it was glorious!

@sweden May 6, 2013, 8:44 p.m.

.@PFQMUSIC Last time I cried was from laughing too hard when reading this:

@sweden May 6, 2013, 7:55 p.m.

I'm going to take a nap because I've been feeling a bit sickly the past few hours. In the meantime: ask me anything.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 7:30 p.m.

@JossydeAlmeida They hop in and out of the cage most of the time but in emergencies they do it on the fleece mat I put out for them.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 7:13 p.m.

@JossydeAlmeida Oh yes, of course! A platform, a plastic igloo, a crunchy tunnel and a wooden bridge.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 7:05 p.m.

@JossydeAlmeida When I'm not at home, yes. When I am home they roam free as they like.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 7:04 p.m.

Genius! RT @theangelremiel: @da_pineapple @sweden a photocopybyra if you will

@sweden May 6, 2013, 6:55 p.m.

They are also much bigger than I imagined. Bigger but just as adorable.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 6:55 p.m.

I have seen capybaras up close, in a zoo in Osaka. I felt sorry for them though. Their cage was dirty and was only made of sterile rock.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 6:51 p.m.

I know, capybaras are not guinea pigs. But still so, so adorable.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 6:48 p.m.

Since I've been dubbed Crazy Guinea Pig Lady, I'm guessing this is my uniform to be.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 6:32 p.m.

Finally at home with my guinea pigs. Free floor and cucumber time!

@sweden May 6, 2013, 5:42 p.m.

Swedish trees are so sturdy that we even have a tree hotel. Imagine a night in that mirror cube.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 5:39 p.m.

Welcome, our woods are lush and tall! @theregos: @sweden well if I'm ever in your neck of the woods I'll bring you some gamer goodies!

@sweden May 6, 2013, 5:37 p.m.

Oh AM I. B-) RT @tictac84: @sweden oh, Maria, are you a gamer?

@sweden May 6, 2013, 5:36 p.m.

@theregos Already got TR to PS3 (and loved it!) so I'm good, thanks. :-)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 5:34 p.m.

@theregos Ooh, a poster? I'm a really good mom! *puppy eyes*

@sweden May 6, 2013, 5:33 p.m.

I'm not that hooked on GTA but I like that particular motif. Tomb Raider on the other hand was brilliant.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 5:31 p.m.

I rarely want game posters but I would roll Need on these any day. #tombraider #gtaiv

@sweden May 6, 2013, 4:13 p.m.

I overheard some coworkers trashtalking Generation Y. "Excuse me, who do you think is making magic happen on this place?!" I said.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 4:06 p.m.

There's a huge plant in the office with fuzzy leaves. Every time I pass it I brush against it slowly, pretending I am a junglecat. Meow.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:50 p.m.

@mtishauser That's my baby. A cookie for you!

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:49 p.m.

@omghest I have yet to play it! I would love to.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:47 p.m.

I am unsure if I am allowed to say exactly which magazine I work at but if you are clever, you can surely google it. ;)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:46 p.m.

@invertedqualia I do, although I mostly play board games and computer games. Both with RPG influences of course.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:46 p.m.

@chrismada9 I have, but I haven't worked with it.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:45 p.m.

So basically, the magazine's website is my baby and I am a website mom. You can call me Mothership, yes, you may.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:44 p.m.

On more exciting days I do HTML/CSS and I am responsible of concept design development. It means my boss makes a wish and I make it happen.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:42 p.m.

Most of my days I copy/paste of texts from reporters and editing photos of products and people in suits. No suits on products. Yet.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:41 p.m.

Some of you are wondering about my work. I am a web editor of Sweden's leading IT magazine. More corporate than private consumers.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:25 p.m.

Another one of my coworkers delivered pictures for an article pre-edited. I just have to upload them. I LOVE HIM. ;_;

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:17 p.m.

I do, but I love my ladies. RT @mouzWake: @sweden Do you know that in the original series, Starbuck was a man?

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:11 p.m.

Kara "Starbuck" Thrace is my all time favourite sci fi series character. I felt a hole in my heart when I finished Battlestar Galactica.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 2:08 p.m.

My coworker @blisk just nicknamed me Starbuck. "I could have said Boomer, but that didn't feel right" he said. #BSG

@sweden May 6, 2013, 1:25 p.m.

Adored by tartan tribes and perky bagpipers? #WIN! RT @DasistKrieg: @sweden you would be the national animal of Scotland!

@sweden May 6, 2013, 1:21 p.m.

If I was an animal, I would be a unicorn. If someone saw me they would be in awe and I would rest my head upon fair maidens all day long.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 1:19 p.m.

@SwedenDC No, but I have a necklace with the picture of a Jackalope.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 1:12 p.m.

Speaking of taxidermy, I found this pelt at a flea market this weekend. No idea of what animal it is. Was. Is.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 1 p.m.

My personal collection of stuffed animals is just a squirrel. I named him Gösta. Anything with a head in my home has a name, dead or alive.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 12:58 p.m.

The most famous badly stuffed animal we have that I can think of is this lion, a gift to the Swedish King in 1731.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 12:54 p.m.

For funny and badly treated taxidermy items, I laugh at this Facebook page:

@sweden May 6, 2013, 12:52 p.m.

I secretly (well, not any more) collect antique animal furs and skins. Even stuffed animals, is that the correct word? Taxidermy items.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 12:51 p.m.

I admit - I am fascinated by morbid things. Mostly morbid art and animal parts. Not gore though, that is a completely different thing.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 12:43 p.m.

@NQRW How about hipster dyke families?

@sweden May 6, 2013, 12:21 p.m.

I love all kinds of animals. Around my neck, in my arms, in the wild and on my plate.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 12:02 p.m.

Just pointed at my boss and screamed "Murderer!" when he said that he wanted to get rid of the pigeon hatchlings on his balcony.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:53 a.m.

While I go for lunch you can read more about me on the @sweden site and how to nominate your own twitterer.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:31 a.m.

.@KVavrik When we get up to the 6th/7th grade, it is compulsory to learn another language besides English. Mostly French, German, Spanish.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:25 a.m.

WHO TOLD YOU, I mean, whrhrhehehehrh.... RT @MDarpo: @sweden you get to the toilet with animals? =)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:21 a.m.

Actually, the best language is body language. I always get to the toilet, order the right food and make myself understood with animals.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:12 a.m.

@Fashtastic I studied Media Production and Journalism at Kalmar University, now known as Linnaeus University.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:10 a.m.

@ThegoodBuck You and me both! Hated that movie though.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:10 a.m.

Yay, do I get a prize? I love winning. >:) RT @gbane: @sweden @ikoof record setting time for curator Fika talk. Congrats.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:08 a.m.

My mother was Thai, so I know Thai. French because it's one of the compulsory languages in school. I know Japanese because I'm a nerd. 8)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:05 a.m.

@ThegoodBuck I see it has having different taste, perception of the stories. It's good either way. :)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11:04 a.m.

@buzrael Yes, you got it just right. :)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11 a.m.

@I_am_Italy It's never too late to learn something new. :)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 11 a.m.

Love! RT @xerent: @_evelinavs @sweden Myself, I consume literature. That doesn't mean eating books, but digesting the meaning of the words.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:55 a.m.

No, but I speak Swedish, English and some Thai, Japanese and French. RT @pgpg4589: @sweden good morning you speak portuguese idiom ?

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:51 a.m.

A gift to humans from above. Or below. Or from the sides. RT @Ikoof: @sweden What is fika?

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:48 a.m.

I see that I've gotten you to think, and talk to eachother. That's great. I like thinking, and talking. Yes, and writing, obviously.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:44 a.m.

The last book I read was Valis by Philip K Dick. I love him, he's one of my top favourite authors, but man that book was really bad.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:43 a.m.

@the_turtle I believe it's the same in english. At least I found this when I did a quick google:

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:40 a.m.

Suffice to say, we agreed to disagree.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:40 a.m.

The projectleaders where unsure if they wanted to count comics. I asked: "Isn't the reading part what's more important, rather than what?"

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:39 a.m.

I was once part of a project that wanted to increase reading among children in the age of 5-12. And I asked: "Will comics count?"

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:38 a.m.

I like to challenge the way we look at books, or other art forms, or even culture. The consuming itself, the intake, is what's important.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:36 a.m.

I love how you talk about books and reading. Some of you are upset about the semantics of reading vs listening to books. Good!

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:33 a.m.

Here are my guinea pigs, Birgit and Edith. They are of a Swedish breed called lunkarya.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:22 a.m.

Signs of being a nerd: "Oh, Aspire R7 looks like the Enterprise, lulz". #thisiswhyI'msingle

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:17 a.m.

Dungeon Keeper of course, sorry about that. All work minded! RT @janinmty: @sweden Dungeon Keeper, I suppose.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:14 a.m.

Downside of editing product images: I WANT ALL OF THEM. Yumyumyum, new Acer tablets.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 10:09 a.m.

I listen to happy silly music when I work. This is one of my top favourites when I copypaste text and crop photos:

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:56 a.m.

Okay, back to work for a bit, I'm web editor for Sweden's leading IT magazine. This peon is whipped, not as bad as in Dungeon Master though.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:54 a.m.

I see a lot of questions popping up, so once again: I will do my very best to answer you all. Don't be sad if I miss your question. :)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:51 a.m.

That's right! Sorry about that. :) RT @alecandercollin @sweden you should not forget about #hyperisland, also at Telefonplan

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:48 a.m.

@steviegell Let's just say I haven't always been as well equipped as I am now. ;)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:47 a.m.

@PYLON_Sean Good sir, you flatter me.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:45 a.m.

So I see you have some answers on the listening vs reading audio book question. Have some retweets!

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:43 a.m.

@colin_jervis My guinea pigs are now at home, sleeping. Or munching hay, maybe both simultaneously.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:42 a.m.

.@dokkou I'm not an aspie, as far as I know, I mean, I haven't been diagnosed. YET. :P

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:42 a.m.

@chrismada9 Video, computer, board, table top, any game. ;)

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:41 a.m.

.@schalkburger My fav Zelda is A Link to the Past, Gameboy Advance version. It was my only consolation during a hard lonely trip in Bangkok.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:39 a.m.

.@UkuleleKris Yes, I even love Twister. Although I am short so instead of reaching across the board I sneak under everyone else. MOUHAH.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:37 a.m.

I will also try my best to answer all your questions about Sweden. Wikipedia and Google, you know. Knowledge in my hand.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:36 a.m.

This week I will take you through my everyday life which I will spice up with more than just pictures of my guinea pigs. I promise.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:35 a.m.

Nowadays Telefonplan is mostly known for the prestigious art school Konstfack. Telefonplan is also inhabited by dykes and hipster families.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:35 a.m.

I live in the suburb Telefonplan outside of Stockholm - named after the old Ericsson phone factory in the neighbourhood.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:32 a.m.

I also like to voice the things that pop in to my head. Like: "If you listen to an audio book - have you still read the book?"

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:31 a.m.

About me: I love games (ALL games), art, fashion, food and animals. I also recently got in to this wild streak of flea market shopping.

@sweden May 6, 2013, 9:28 a.m.

Hello Monday - hello followers! My name is Maria and I will be your @sweden for this week.
