Therese Bohman

was @sweden 2012-08-13 to 2012-08-19

Hi! I am Therese Bohman, 33, living in Stockholm. I work as an editor at the monthly magazine Axess, and I am also an art critic for the newspaper Expressen, and a freelance writer on art, literature and fashion.

Two years ago, my debut novel Drowned was released in Sweden. Since then, it has been published in France, Germany, Holland, Australia, New Zeeland and the US. It was actually recommended on Oprah Winfrey's book club, which still feels a bit unreal.

I am working on novel no 2, but it seems to be taking me a while. (The first one took me about eight years. But holding that pace, I am still faster than Donna Tartt.) I grew up in Kolmården, a small village about 150 km south of Stockholm, mostly famous for its zoo, where they have lots of exotic animals walking around in the pine forest. I went to the zoo all the time when I was a child, and I am still very fond of animals.

Nowadays, however, I also like them dead and taxidermied, hanging on my walls. I am interested in art and literature, in fashion and flowers and all things beautiful. I collect images of beautiful things on my Pinterest (Warning! Contains nudity!) Normally, I tweet as @theresebohman.

In Sweden, people love their shellfish! They can go on and on about a shrimp sandwich.

@sweden Aug. 19, 2012, 7:47 p.m.

When I was younger I used to sit by the table eating a hot dog instead. That does however feel a bit weird when you're my age.

@sweden Aug. 19, 2012, 7:44 p.m.

Since I am allergic to shellfish, I feel totally excluded from this tradition.

@sweden Aug. 19, 2012, 7:44 p.m.

Judging from my Facebook and Instagram feeds, lots of Swedes seem to have spent this weekend eating crayfish. It's a big thing in Sweden.

RT http://twitter.com/Christer_C">@Christer_C I would say "cured" or maybe "salt cured" RT http://twitter.com/FranBaren">@FranBaren http://twitter.com/sweden">@sweden the translation for 'rimmad' is 'corned', as in corned beef.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 2:13 p.m.

Lots of feedback on the dill! You are obviously decent people. Left-handed dill lovers.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 2:11 p.m.

Dill isn't even expensive. If I really wanted to, I could live on dill alone today.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 2:11 p.m.

(Just kidding about living on dill alone. That would be strange.)

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 2:08 p.m.

The day I am a rich best selling author I will live on dill alone.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 2:07 p.m.

I love it beacause I love salmon and I love potatoes and I love dill.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 2:06 p.m.

It's a salmon that has been... lying around in some salt, I think. And potatoes boiled in a creamy dill sauce.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 2:05 p.m.

This is rimmad lax and dillstuvad potatis. I think it is a typical swedish course: http://t.co/yi9AueOP">http://t.co/yi9AueOP

I want the world to know that I was not born in a zoo.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 10:56 a.m.

So when I tell other Swedes that I was born in Kolmården, they often think that I was actually born in the zoo.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 10:56 a.m.

Kolmården is most famous for it's big zoo. The zoo is also called Kolmården.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 10:56 a.m.

I was born in the countryside, in Kolmården, which is a small village about 150 km south of Stockholm.

@sweden Aug. 13, 2012, 10:55 a.m.

Since I live in Stockholm, most of my tweets will be about Stockholm. I am however well aware that Sweden is bigger than that!
